Ernest Joseph Drust, age 88, of White Pigeon, Michigan, passed away on August 18, 2026, after a life marked by devotion to family, faith, service, and community. He was born on November 4, 1937, in Cheboygan, Michigan.

Ernest was a lifelong barber in the White Pigeon community, where he became a familiar and trusted presence to generations of families. Through his work, he not only provided a valued service, but also built lasting friendships and earned the respect of many who came to know him. His barber chair was often a place of conversation, laughter, and connection, and he took pride in serving others with care and consistency.

He was also a proud United States Air Force veteran, and his time in service reflected the same sense of duty that guided him throughout his life. While serving, he worked on airplanes and developed a lasting appreciation for aircraft, an interest he enjoyed for many years. His military service remained an important part of his identity, and he carried that experience with honor and humility.

Faith was central to Ernest’s life, and he was very involved with St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. His commitment to his church and his community was evident in the many ways he gave of himself over the years. He believed in helping others, supporting those around him, and living in a manner that reflected his values. He was devoted to community service and found great joy in being part of the lives of others.

Ernest especially cherished time spent with family and friends. He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Pant, Norbert Drust, Paul and (Lisa) Drust, Christina and (Mike) Schumacher, and John Drust, and step-sons Keith Horn and Lee Ballou; his grandchildren, Joshua Pant, Jessica Pant, Vanessa Drust, Danny Drust, Susie Drust, and Eric Schumacher, and step-grandson Justin Horn; his great-grandchildren; his brother, Norbert Drust; his first wife, Mary Ellen Miller along with several nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Alta Drust; his parents, Joseph and Clarice Drust; his brothers, Vincent, Charles, and Raymond Drust; his sisters, Patricia Bailey and Loretta Blue; and his son-in-law, Greg Pant. Their memories remained a part of his life, and he carried the bonds of family with him always.

Ernest will be remembered for his steady presence, his generous spirit, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and devotion that will continue to be felt by all who knew and loved him.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 4, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 16603 US-12, White Pigeon, MI 49099.

Ernest’s family will greet relatives and friends in the Sister Maxine Church Hall (St. Joseph's) from 10:00 am until the time of mass Friday in the church.

Interment with full military honors will be conducted at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery following Mass.
