Obituary

Patricia Margaret Mary Balyeat, known to many as Pat, passed away June 11, 2026, in Wakarusa, Indiana, at the age of 87. She was born on January 1, 1939, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and lived a life marked by love, generosity, and devotion to her family and all who knew her.

Pat was a woman whose kindness was felt deeply by those around her. She carried herself with warmth and grace, and she had a gentle way of making others feel welcome and cared for. Her loving spirit and generous heart were evident in the way she lived each day, always placing the needs of others before her own and offering support, encouragement, and comfort whenever it was needed.

Pat was a talented homemaker and creative spirit who found joy in caring for others. She loved baking cakes for weddings, birthdays and special occasions, often spending hours perfecting delicate frosting flowers until they were just right. She also enjoyed canning fruits, jams, jellies, sewing and sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends.

Pat’s flower gardens were another source of pride and joy. Her yard was once recognized as Constantine’s “Most Beautiful Yard” and during the summer months she could often be found barefoot among her flowers, tending the gardens she loved so much.

A hard worker throughout her life, Pat was devoted to providing for her family and at times worked two jobs to help make ends meet. She approached life with determination, resilience, and a servant’s heart. More than anything, Pat loved caring for the people around her. Family gatherings were especially important to her, and while everyone else was filling their plates, Pat was usually making sure others had enough to eat before thinking about herself. Her greatest joy came from serving those she loved and making everyone feel welcome around her table.

She also dearly loved her dogs, who were faithful companions and brought her tremendous joy. Anyone who knew Pat knew how special they were to her and how much she cherished having them by her side. Pat had a quick wit, touch of sarcasm and a personality that kept family and friends on their toes. She loved sharing stores, often with her own creative embellishments. She brought laughter, warmth and plenty of memorable moments to those fortunate enough to know her.

Family was at the center of Pat’s life. She is survived by her children, Steve Barczak and his wife Lori, Tim Barczak and his wife April, Mary Barczak, Jackie Brand and her husband Bill, Mark Barczak and his wife Sheila, Don and Connie Balyeat, Ron and Diane Balyeat, Connie and Stewart VanZile, Monte and Leslie Balyeat, and Donya Caley. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Alex, Zach, Jake, Sam, Dylan, Austin, Taya, Nick, Ben, William II, Robert, Kenton, Tristan, Austin, Derek and Mateo, along with 17 great-grandchildren who brought her great joy. Pat is also survived by her sister, Ruth, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended relatives who will cherish her memory and the many ways she touched their lives.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Don Balyeat, whose memory remained close to her heart. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Donna Schumacher, and by her brothers, Paul, Matthew, and Fred. Their passing was a sorrow she carried, yet she continued to honor the importance of family and the bonds that endure through generations.

Those who knew Pat will remember her for the love she gave so freely and the generosity she extended without hesitation. She had a steady presence and a caring nature that made a lasting impression on her family and friends. Her life was a reflection of simple but profound values, and she leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and devotion.

Pat’s memory will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister, and all who were blessed to know her. Though she is no longer here in body, the love she shared and the example she set will continue to guide and comfort those who loved her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.

Pat’s family will greet family and friends from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Monday, June 15, 2026 at the Farrand Funeral Home, 300 N. Kalamazoo St., White Pigeon, MI 49099.
